Designing for Change in Tofo Beach
As tourism grew, so did litter in the town of Tofo Beach, Mozambique. In response, ALMA was founded — a grassroots initiative that transformed the town with organised refuse collection and a new recycling center. Today, ALMA also runs two vibrant shops selling recycled products, conducts community awareness programs and offers workshops in local schools.
To amplify ALMA’s mission of waste reduction and community impact, we created a visual language featuring local kapulana patterns and designed a series of bold and colorful billboards. These designs, located at Tofo’s busiest spots, bring ALMA’s work into the spotlight and helped ALMA to connect with locals and visitors, spark action and find volunteers.

The project was supported by the Municipality of Inhambane and the German Embassy Maputo.
